About me

My name is Xiaohai Chen and I go by Lionel. I’m studying Computer Science and Physics at Boston University.

I recently completed a Study Abroad program at University of Copenhagen, and I refined topics such as Quantum Computing, Virtual Reality and Python Programming for Data Science.

Quantum Computing Lab Shadowing

2022 Winter

During my time at Copenhagen, I explored Quantum Computing algorithms, protocols and tools. I ran basic quantum algorithms qubit circuits with IBM Qiskit and explored concepts such as Quantum Key Distribution and Quantum Teleportation

iQ3R Educational Insistute Software Engineer intern

2019 Summer

While I am in iQ3R, I utilized CentOS and GLUU to virtualize institute system resources and services. I also conducted data logging and analysis on users’ activities on the website, identifying security vulnerabilities.

Group Projects

VR Locomotion

01

The Project is a study on users’ locomotion and moving techniques in VR. It was developed with Oculus Quest and Unity, implementing different methods such as strafing with a joystick, node teleportation, and stick-aim teleportation. My teammates and I developed a 3D environment, and we customized a locomotion system that allows users to traverse our terrain in a smooth experience.

Hand Tracking & Haptic Feedback in VR

02

This Project explored the use of hand tracking and haptic feedback in VR, building an interactive piano and finger drumming experience. The team collected and analyzed user feedback on the experiences, documenting data on user experience and providing a comprehensive analysis of the potential for haptic feedback in VR music education and performance.

VR Data Logging and Object Manipulation

03

This Project develops a customized data logging system and provides users with real-time feedback. It implemented OVR hand-tracking to allow users to interact with objects in Unity, including physics rigid bodies. We integrated custom scripting to enable real-time data logging and graph plotting, providing users with immediate feedback on their hand movements.

Individual Projects

Independent Game Developer

I have been making games on Unity since 2018 with open-sourced materials. I have experience with 3D environment building and character design, while still learning visual effects and sound design.

I make a variety of games ranging from FPS to puzzle games. While I am busy with school, I aspire to be an indie game developer.

Music Production

I started making music with Garageband on Mac in 2019, now use Logic Pro. I sampled and modified beats myself, and I collaborate occasionally with others.

I make music that reflects the emotions I feel at the moment, therefore it genre varies quite a bit. It usually lies within hip-hop, r&b and lofi.
